Shmoop University’s Critical Reading and Writing is intended for the high school Practical Writing course.  The goal of this fully digital program is to “provide fun, rigorous, materials that engage and challenge.”   

The material is comprised of a single unit containing ten lessons. It is intended to span three weeks, Students progress through the material independently and at their own pace. They may work through the course in any order, guided by the interactive table of contents.

The Course Overview states, “This course is designed for students who have never read or written critically before.”  As such, the course includes instructional videos that  allow students an opportunity to explore critical reading before learning about it formally. Critical Reading and Writing provides a cohesive process for analyzing text and writing a critical analysis essay.
