Is your district looking for a reading product that supports balanced literacy with more traditional resources for teachers and students?  Take a look at Learning List’s reviews of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Into Reading.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Into Reading is a comprehensive literacy program that supports English language arts and reading instruction in kindergarten through 6th grade. Content is available in print and digital formats. Instruction develops students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills using authentic texts from a variety of genres.

Into Reading mixes the structures of balanced literacy and workshop models with traditional basal reading instruction, such as explicit direction for teachers and pre-selected resources and tools for students.  The material incorporates numerous opportunities and structures for effective group, partner, and individual work. Materials include commonly read texts for lessons as well as a leveled library for small group instruction. Commonly read texts are not adjustable by Lexile and alternate text is not provided.

A robust set of resources provide content knowledge, pedagogy, and implementation assistance for teachers. These resources include suggestions for modeling and teaching strategies that address a variety of student needs. Successful implementation of the numerous program components will require time for professional learning and planning.

Learning List has completed a standard-by-standard alignment report, qualitative review of the instructional content and a review of the technology compatibility for each grade level covered by this material.  To learn more about this product and thousands more PreK-12 instructional materials, contact Learning List for subscription information.
