Each chapter opens with an image related to the period, a set of “Focus Questions” (e.g., “How did the New Deal recast the meaning of American freedom?”), a short introduction, and a timeline of important events. Some eBook chapter sections and subsections include an embedded video in which the text’s author discusses some element of the narrative in an interview format (e.g., “Landmarks for the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s”). An icon in the margin cues readers to the presence of the video. All course videos are closed captioned and include transcripts.
Teacher resources include a “Course Planning and Pacing Guide” that provides detailed information about organizing content for each historical period identified in the College Board’s course framework for AP U.S. History. Additional teaching resources available from the publisher include PowerPoint slides with lecture notes for each chapter, slides of art and images from the text, and an “Instructor’s Manual” with chapter summaries and outlines.
