Learning List has reviewed Glynlyon’s Odysseyware products for mathematics and English language arts (ELA) for grades 3-5. Although neither product was created to address the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) specifically, Learning List has conducted TEKS alignment verifications for each product at each grade level. Across grades, mathematics instruction focuses on developing number skills, numerical literacy, and concepts in geometry. ELA courses develop close reading skills in conjunction with writing, speaking, and listening skills. Each course begins with a “Course Overview” that provides an introduction to content and a list of additional materials (e.g., protractor, “Fantastic Mr. Fox”).
Both the math and ELA materials are fully customizable; teachers may reorder, add, and delete content. Some units include projects that require students to apply what they have learned (e.g., use patterns to determine the next term in a sequence, write a fable). Projects are completed online using Odysseyware’s “Writer” word processing tool.
