Is your district looking for materials to support student independence? Take a look at Learning List’s review of HighScope Educational Research Foundation’s The HighScope Curriculum.
The HighScope Curriculumis a comprehensive program for Prekindergarten. The program supports instruction in the ten domains of the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines through “active participatory learning, positive adult-child interactions, engaging learning environments, and a consistent daily routine.”
Through these structures, the material focuses on providing learning for students in which they construct knowledge through their experiences and grow to see themselves as learners. The materials encourage independence, student ownership of learning, and critical thinking as students plan many of their own learning experiences.
The program consistently provides developmentally appropriate learning experiences, and includes comprehensive research-based best practices for early childhood, as well as detailed information on early stages of emergent literacy.
While significant teacher guidance is provided, lessons are limited to the first thirty days of school and a book of activities organized by domain in the TPG. No additional lesson plans, plans for centers, or unit plans are provided, so teachers may require extended time for planning and preparation.
Read Learning List’s full editorial review to learn more about how the program supports the learning needs of all students.
In addition to the editorial review, Learning List has completed a review of the material’s technology compatibility. To learn more about this product and thousands more PreK-12 instructional materials, contact Learning List for subscription information.
