TPS’s STEAM into English Learners Language Arts (TPS ELLA) is a comprehensive English language arts program for the grade 7 and 8 English Learner Language Arts course. The materials are available in print and digital form.
While students participate in activities that encourage development of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, that is not the focus of instruction. TPS ELLAfocuses instruction on a single student expectation in each lesson. As students work through the material, they read background information related to the standard and learn new academic language. They also explore scientific concepts, such as body systems and matter and energy, as they follow a character named Amelia Rose through her adventures.
The material includes an extended novel unit. In the novel unit students participate in activities such as learning historical background relative to the text, developing literary analysis skills, and providing written responses to the text. The program does not provide the texts referenced the lessons.
