Education Galaxy provides a diagnostic test that identifies individual student strengths and weaknesses in mastering the TEKS and provides a recommended “My Study Plan.” Study Plans are tailored to individual student needs and present assignments in the form of short formative assessments that address a single standard or a set of related standards. Students may complete their assignments in “Standard Assessment” mode or “Game” mode. In Standard Assessment mode, students progress to the next question when they solve a problem correctly. In Game mode, students are rewarded with a brief (i.e., 20 second) game when they are able to solve a problem correctly on the first try.
Learning List interviewed educators who use Education Galaxy in the classroom with students. These educators highlighted the program’s ease of use and stressed its value in supporting independent practice. They explained that in order for Education Galaxy to be effective, students must have had direct instruction in concepts before beginning Study Plan assessments. Teachers said the program was engaging for students and noted the effectiveness of games a motivational tool.
